What a suspended account means
Why an account might be suspended, what still happens while it is, and how to get it lifted.
Suspension is not a lockout
A lockout is automatic, applies to a network address, and clears itself after 20 minutes or 24 hours. A suspension is applied by an administrator to a specific account and stays until it is lifted by a person.
Why it happens
- Using the file store to distribute material that breaks the terms.
- Sending abusive or unlawful content through vault delivery.
- A payment dispute that has not been resolved.
- Strong evidence that the account has been taken over, where suspending it protects the real owner.
It is rare, and it is never the automatic result of a failed payment or a mistyped password.
What happens while suspended
You cannot sign in. Your data is not deleted and nothing is destroyed. Both the suspension and any later restoration are written to your audit log, so the record is there when you get back in.
Getting it lifted
Write to support from the email address on the account and ask what it relates to. If it was a mistake or the underlying issue is resolved, the account is restored intact.
If you have an armed vault
Say so in your first message. Clocks do not care about the state of an account, and a deadline that is close needs to be dealt with before anything else.
