Arming, pausing and deleting a vault

Arming

Open the vault and press Arm. The countdown starts at that moment, running for the full interval. Until you arm it, a vault is a draft: it has a message, a recipient and a timer, and it will never send anything.

Arming requires a verified email address, because an armed vault needs somewhere to send reminders. It also counts against your plan's active vault limit: one on Free, five on Basic, unlimited on Pro and Lifetime. Paused and delivered vaults do not count.

Pausing

Press Pause. The clock stops dead. A paused vault sends nothing, reminds you about nothing, and stays exactly as you left it for as long as you like.

This is the correct thing to do before a flight, a hospital stay, a retreat, or any stretch where you know you will not be reachable. It is much safer than hoping to find signal, and much safer than extending the interval and forgetting to put it back.

Resuming

Press Arm again. The countdown restarts from full, not from where it stopped. A 30 day vault paused with two days left comes back with thirty days on the clock.

Deleting

Deleting a vault removes the vault and its message permanently and cannot be undone. Files that were attached to it are not deleted; they stay in your Files area, because a file may well be attached to more than one vault. If you want the file gone too, delete it separately under Files.

Deletion is recorded in your audit log.

A delivered vault

A vault that has fired cannot be armed, paused or reset. It is kept as a record of what was sent and when. To set the same thing up again, create a new vault and paste the message across.
