Editing a vault that is already armed
You can change the message, recipient, attachments and timer of a live vault. What each change does to the countdown.
An armed vault is not frozen. Open it, change what you need, and save. The vault stays armed throughout and there is no gap where it would fail to fire.
Message, title and recipient
These take effect immediately and do not touch the countdown. Editing the recipient is the one to be careful with: the new address receives everything from that point on, and the old one receives nothing. As with the original address, nothing is sent to either party to confirm the change, so read it back before saving.
Attachments
Adding or removing files takes effect immediately. Whatever is attached at the moment of delivery is what gets sent.
The interval
This one moves the deadline. The new deadline is calculated as your last check in plus the new interval.
- Lengthening pushes the deadline further out. Safe, immediate, no surprises.
- Shortening pulls the deadline closer, and on a vault you have not checked in to for a while the new deadline can be very close indeed. Changing a 30 day vault to a 1 day vault twenty days after your last check in puts the deadline nineteen days in the past.
The vault screen shows the new deadline as soon as you save. Read it before you close the tab. If it is closer than you expected, check in immediately to reset the clock to a full interval.
Reminders reset too
Changing the interval clears the record of which reminders have already been sent, so you get the 75 and 90 percent warnings again on the new schedule rather than being skipped because they went out under the old one.
Everything is logged
Every edit is written to your audit log with a timestamp and the address it came from. If a vault ever looks different from how you left it, the log will tell you when it changed.
