The reminders you get before a vault fires
Two warnings go out on every armed vault, at 75 and 90 percent of the interval. What they look like and how to make sure you see them.
Every armed vault sends two warnings before it delivers anything.
- At 75 percent of the interval. On a 30 day vault, that is day 22 or 23, with about a week to spare.
- At 90 percent. On the same vault, day 27, with three days left.
Each is sent once per countdown. Checking in resets the record along with the clock, so you get both again next time around.
How they reach you
By email to your account address, and by push notification if you have installed the app and granted permission. Both can be turned off under Notifications, though turning off reminders on a live vault removes the only automatic thing standing between a busy month and an accidental delivery.
Checking in from the reminder itself
Every reminder email carries a Check in button. It opens a page that names the vault and its deadline, and one more tap resets the countdown. It does not sign you in and it shows nothing else about your account.
Each link is single use and belongs to the reminder it arrived in. A newer reminder replaces the previous link, and every link stops working once the deadline it was warning about has passed. Nothing happens simply by opening the page, so a mail scanner following links in your inbox cannot check in on your behalf.
Short intervals get short warnings
The percentages are of the interval, not fixed periods. A one hour vault warns you at 45 minutes and 54 minutes. That is by design, but it means short timers demand real attention: an email arriving six minutes before delivery is not a safety net. Use push notifications for anything under a day.
If the reminders are not arriving
- Check your spam folder and add our sending address to your contacts.
- Check Notifications in your account to confirm reminders are enabled.
- Confirm the address on your profile is one you actually read.
- Look at your audit log: reminders are recorded there when they are sent, so you can tell the difference between "not sent" and "sent but not seen".
Whatever the cause, treat missing reminders as urgent. The vault will still fire on time regardless of whether the warning reached you.
Do not rely on them alone
Email is unreliable in ways nobody controls: a full mailbox, an aggressive filter, a provider outage. Put a repeating reminder in your own calendar as well. It costs a minute and it is the single most effective thing you can do to keep a vault from firing by accident.
